Full Description

An area of possible post medieval extraction on open ground at Corfe Mullen is visible on 1940s aerial photographs (1).

The features comprise a 36m by 24m area of what may be shallow surface extraction of post medieval date, although it may alternatively be ground disturbance due to animal burroiwng. On its east side the area of possible extraction may encroach onto earthworks associated with the Roman Road from Badbury Rings to Pool (MDO5461).

The site is under housing on current Google Earth imagery and the features are no longer visible, presumed levelled. The features were digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.
