Full Description
The probable site of a prehistoric trackway with associated enclosures and boundaries is visible as cropmarks on aerial photographs on King Down, Pamphill (1-2). The site covers 4 hectares and was digitally plotted during the Dorset Stour NMP. A rectilinear enclosure 50m by 46m lies at the junction of two trackways, a small complex of possible settlement enclosures lies to the northwest at ST 9791 0428. Further enclosures and pits were recorded during the Dorset Middle Stour Project (3). Two hollows in the vicinity visible as earthworks on lidar imagery (4) may be contemporary or later chalk pits.
