Summary

Banked linear features are visible as earthworks on aerial photographs on Farm Hill Bottom, Maiden Newton. The features are considered likely to be field and enclosure boundaries associated with an Iron Age/Romano-British field system. They were digitally plotted during the Dorset Upper Frome AIM project.

Full Description

(Area centred SY 617978) Field systems plotted from air photographs. <1>

Vague fragmentary remains of a `Celtic' field system are visible in the south west of the delineated area. <2>

Ploughed out--no remains. <3>

Banked linear features are visible as earthworks on aerial photographs on Farm Hill Bottom, Maiden Newton <4-6>. The features are considered likely to be field and enclosure boundaries associated with an Iron Age/Romano-British field system. They were digitally plotted during the Dorset Upper Frome AIM project.

Many of the features are still visible as low earthworks and cropmarks on current Google Earth imagery.
