Full Description
A bowl barrow, 39ft diameter and 3.5ft high situated 1.25 miles west of Godmanstone church. Listed under bowl barrows by Grinsell but described as a "Cairn, 15 paces diameter and 3ft high". <3> <5>
A bowl barrow, 15.0m diameter and 1.3m high is under the plough which has revealed a heavy flint content. No trace of ditch. <4>
Reduced by ploughing to a spread of flint some 16m in diameter and 0.2m high. Revised at 1:2500 on MSD. <6>
A low sub-circular mound is visible as an earthwork on aerial photographs on the east side of Magiston Hill, Godmanstone <7-9>. The feature is recorded as a Bronze Age bowl barrow (NRHE Hob UID 453144) and is shown as a tumulus on the OS 1st Edition map <1>. The features were digitally plotted during the Dorset Upper Frome AIM project.
The feature is still visible on 2010 Google Earth imagery <10>.
