Summary

Linear banked features are visible as earthworks on aerial photographs and on current Lidar imagery on the west side of Sydling St Nicholas. The features may be historic field boundaries, possibly delineating tofts and property boundaries associated with an area of shrunken medieval settlement. The features were digitally plotted during the Dorset Upper Frome AIM project.

Full Description

Linear banked features are visible as earthworks on aerial photographs and on current Lidar imagery on the west side of Sydling St Nicholas (1, 2). The features may be historic field boundaries, possibly delineating tofts and property boundaries associated with an area of shrunken medieval settlement. Some of the features are recorded on the OS 1st Edition map and may be later in origin (3). The features were digitally plotted during the Dorset Upper Frome AIM project.
