Full Description
Linear banked and ditched features are visible as earthworks on 1940s aerial photographs to the northeast of Poor Lot, Batcombe (1, 2). The features comprise one predominant 120m long double banked linear on a SW-NE axis, adjoined by additional linear scarps and banks running perpendicular to this. The features are within an area of post medieval quarrying (MDO43001; 43002; 43003) and may also be extractive in origin, although their character and proximity to nearby areas of Iron Age field systems may indicate an older origin for these features, which may alternatively be field boundaries and/or trackways of prehistoric date. They were digitally plotted during the Dorset Upper Frome AIM project.
The features are still visible on current Google Earth imagery.
