Summary

A series of linear scarps and linear banked features are visible as earthworks on 1940s aerial photographs on the north side of Batcombe Hill, Batcombe. The features coincide with an old chalk pit and lime kiln recorded on the OS 1st Edition map. They were digitally plotted during the Dorset Upper Frome AIM project.

Full Description

A series of linear scarps and linear banked features are visible as earthworks on 1940s aerial photographs on the north side of Batcombe Hill, Batcombe (1). The features coincide with an old chalk pit and lime kiln recorded on the OS 1st Edition map (2). They were digitally plotted during the Dorset Upper Frome AIM project.

The features are still visible as earthworks within tree cover on current Google Earth imagery.
