Full Description
Old chalk pits are recorded on Wardon Hill on the OS 1st Edition map (1). The features are visible as earthworks on 1940s aerial photographs where they comprise two irregular ditched and scarped depressions 65m by 46m and 35m by 22m that correspond with those shown on the OS 1st Edition map, as well as an additional 20m by 19m semi-circular scarped depression 35m to the southeast (2). The features were digitally plotted during the Dorset Upper Frome AIM project.
The features are still visible under trees and vegetation on current Google Earth imagery.
