Full Description

Round Chimneys Farmhouse, a 2-storey rubble walled house with ashlar dressing, partly rendered, with stone mullioned windows. The east wing is 16th century and the west wing probably 17th century. According to Hutchins there was formerly a gabled and dormer-windowed third storey. A chimney had a date-stone which Hutchins records as being 159-, the fourth figure being defaced. The house, now a farm, was a manor house of the Earls of Salisbury and Huntingdon and later of the Churchill family. <1, 5, 6>

'Round Chimneys Farm', name confirmed by owner, a large farmhouse in fair condition. As described above, with fair round stone chimney stacks, one lately rebuilt. No datestone could be detected from ground level. Several mullioned windows in the east end are blocked up and the stone roofs have largely been replaced with grey slates. Not particularly outstanding for the area. <7>
