Full Description

The upper part of a Neolithic axe from Corfe Mullen is in the possession of the author. The axe appears to have been broken during use. <1>

This axe appears among objects in the H P Smith Collection exhibited in Poole Museum. It cannot be identified as the one mentioned above, with absolute certainty, but the half exhibited is of a polished flint axe, with a dark brown staining, and is approximately 3½" long and 1½" wide. It is not labelled but is shown in a case with other Corfe Mullen objects. No details are obtainable at the Museum, and in view of Mr Smith's decease a few years ago, no closer provenance is obtainable. <2>
