Monument record MDO43341 - Medieval cross, Bishops Down, Folke

The remains of a late 15th century cross were found built into the chimney of a farm cottage, now demolished, at Bishop's Down. They consist of pieces of an octagonal pedestal with carvings on the faces of the octagon, and are now in Sherborne Castle Museum.

The remains of a late 15th century cross were found built into the chimney of a farm cottage, now demolished, at Bishop's Down, Folke. They consist of pieces of an Octagonal pedestal with carvings on the faces of the octagon. It is described in <1> as a 'churchyard' or 'highway' cross. Now in Sherborne Castle Museum. <1> <2>

The cottage was demolished in 1910 or a little later (H Loder). Its footings are still traceable in a grass-covered area at ST 67281210. <3>
