Full Description
The earthwork remains of a probable Iron Age/Roman field system are visible centred at approximately ST 7403 0139 on aerial photographs.
The field system extends from the remains of a Romano-British settlement recorded in UID 202131. The settlement is situated on Hog Hill with the field system extending south and south-west across the remainder of the hilltop and down the north-west and south-east sides.
The field system is partially scheduled with the settlement site (DO362) to the north-west and partially as a separate scheduling (D0670 a) in the south. The field system earthworks across the hilltop are outside the scheduled areas already described and badly eroded by ploughing.
Extensive damage by rabbits is visible on the earthworks to the south (SAM D0670 a).
These features are visible on aerial photographs taken by English Heritage in 2007 as part of the Reconnaissance Recording Programme. <1-2>
