Full Description
Stukeley says "Just above Blandford is an odd entrenchment upon a hill, with others like the foundations of small towers, and a barrow near it. It is north of the town, near the late camp. It is 200 x 300 paces; the entrance on the west".
No traces of these works were discovered in 1861, according to Shipp. From July-October 1756, there was a camp consisting of two regiments in Pimperne. <1>
No trace of this earthwork was found during field investigation; from the description above the work might be suspected to have been in the vicinity of Camp Down at ST 883088. More doubtful is a connexion between Stukeley's earthwork and the hilltop enclosure two miles north of Blandford. (ST 80 NE 6). <2>
