Full Description
A round barrow at Whatcombe (ST 8501) near Blandford was opened in 1898 by J. C. Mansel-Pleydell and W. Boyd Dawkins.
The ditch, which was cut into the solid chalk to a depth of about 5 feet, had been "smoothed and polished into a perfectly well-defined track by human feet circling round the burial mound".
(RCHM believe the barrow may be identified with one on Whatcombe Down, ST 80 SE 15). <1-2>
