Full Description
(Centred ST 838033) A little north of the Manor House, Winterborne Clenston was an ancient chapel converted into a dwelling house and demolished in 1774-5; it appears to have fallen into disuse about 1640. In 1336 the churches and parishes of Clenston and Nicholson (possibly St. Nicholas's Church - see ST 80 SW 42) were amalgamated into the present Winterborne Clenston parish. (see ST 80 SW 16 for DMV of Nicholson). <1-2>>
'Ecclesia Sancti Andrew de Wynterborne Chencheston' (sic) is mentioned in 1288 Assize Roll. <3>
