Building record MDO43770 - Malthouse, Acreman Street, Sherborne

Summary
A malthouse is shown on the OS 25-inch map of 1886 in Lower Acreman Street, comprising a short rectangular portion of street frontage 36 feet long by 21 feet, with a longer projecting portion approximately 24 feet by 57 feet built on at a skew to the rear. It was used by the Dorsetshire Brewery Company as a malthouse and stables in 1894, and as stores in 1909. When seen in 1972, it was a stone building with a tiled roof, and timber framing, apparently of a great age. It was demolished in 1974, and the materials used to rebuild the street frontage as a period town house.
