Summary
Former malthouse built in 1834 by George Nathaniel Shore. It was used as a barracks during World War II, and was a boarding kennels in 1971. The building is of stone, around 140 feet by 25 feet, the original stone roof replaced by slate. It retained the kiln, cistern and couch, and also the pitchback waterwheel, presumably used for grist milling, when visited in 1971. The building has since been converted to apartments. The building was leased to Devenish's Weymouth brewery from 1839. In 1920 it was acquired by John Grove's Hope Brewery of Weymouth, but ceased to be used in 1939.
