Full Description

At Alderholt was formerly a chapel dedicated to St Clement. Mentioned (16 ELIZ) and in use in 1650 but since desecrated. <1>

"St Clement's was in Alderholt Street, the last priest being Hannibal Chater who died in 1670 when the church fell into ruin. No trace of it remains. <2>

I have tried for 60 years to find the site of this chapel and I have failed. Tithe maps were consulted but contained no reference to Chapel Close or such names. Alderholt Street has been re-named Sandleheath Road. It extends from Alderholt Mill [SU 1187 1425] to the junction of the roads 300.0m west of Bonfire Hill [SU 1230 1303]. <3>

No information was obtained on this chapel apart from that contained above. The Park Chapel [SU 1147 1353] is brick built and bears no trace of antiquity. It is used as a chicken house. <4>
