Full Description

ST 95201499. Oval enclosure, area 0.8 ha., visible on air photogrphs. Gap entrance faces North. <1-2>

Air photographs taken 25th July 2001 show a near-complete enclosure circuit. Oval, broader to the east and aligned more or less east-west, the enclosure measures circa 97 metres by 82 metres. There does not appear to be an entrance to the north - this suggestion appears to have arisen from earlier APs which do not show the entire enclosure circuit. The entrance is to the west, where the enclosure narrows, giving the appearance of an almost funnel-like entrance circa 23 metres wide. A short length of ditch runs away to the sw from a point close to the southern entrance terminal. Circa 70 metres east of the enclosure is a near-parallel pair of linear features of uncertain date or function. The interior of the enclosure appears to contain numerous pits, thought the general vicinity also features numerous similar features, so many if not all need not be of archaeological origin. One 'blob' within the enclosure is circa 8 metres across and may be something more substantial (if indeed it is of archaeological origin). <3>
