Full Description
A linear ditched feature is visible as cropmarks on aerial photographs running for over 700m in a SW-NE direction (2-3). It is considered likely to be that previously described as a Bronze Age boundary (L2). It runs parallel to and north of the features described in MDO4419. The site was digitally recorded during the Dorset Upper Cern and Piddle AIM Project.

‘Three linear features were recorded (Fig. 2, L1-3). L1 runs north from the northern rampart of Weatherby Castle for a distance of 300m before merging with a modern field boundary. The feature appears to be a ditch and makes two “dog-leg” runs suggesting that the linear may be bounding a “Celtic” field system. L2 is visible for a total distance of 450m and could be an extension of L1.
L3 is 150m south of L2 and visible for a total length of 250m. This feature comprises two parallel elements, the southernmost being the strongest, and probably representing a ditch. The slighter mark, c.5m to the north, may prove to be a palisade trench, a feature which can be paralleled on the Quarley linear complex in Hampshire.
There are extensive traces of “open” settlement-like features between L2 and L3 (Fig. 2, “S”).’
