Full Description

Centred at ST 69030317. A small area of fairly pronounced field banks and lynchets, partly under grass and partly under crops. These scarps, visible on air photographs and probably of Iron Age/Romano-British origin, were once probably incorporated in the larger systems in the area. <1>

This field system has been destroyed by modern farming methods. <2>

Banked linear features to the west of Alton Pancras are visible as earthworks on 1940s aerial photographs and current Environment Agency lidar imagery. Although very ploughed out, they are considered likely to be part of a later prehistoric field system of probble Iron Age/Romano-British date, possibly extending the field systems on the higher ground (eg MDO48364) and were digitally plotted during the Dorset Upper Cerne and Piddle Valleys AIM project. <4, 5>
