Summary
Suggested site of a spring, apparently on the basis of place name evidence. O G S Crawford, following a reference by Pitt Rivers, noted the occurrence of the name Black Patch and suggested it referred to the site of a spring. Ordnance Survey field investigation in 1954 noted that "the area is covered by a plantation. No black patch or likely site of a spring was found. Almost at the bottom of a hill".
