Full Description
Barrows on the former eastern boundary of Horton are mentioned in a charter of AD 1033. The River Crane is not cited as a landmark in the charter, and it seems probable that the boundary at that time passed west of the river over Horton Common (SU 0707). Landmark 15 - "on Waenecan Wyrth on tha Beorgas" - probably referred to cultivated land south south east of Mount Pleasant and to the barrows close to the railway. Alternatively, the barrows could have been those in Horton Plantation (SU 00 NE 5 and 6). <1-2>
