Full Description
A post medieval extractive pit to the east of Lytchett Matravers, is visible as an earthwork on a 1946 aerial photograph [1]. The feature is located within a southwest to northeast running seam of sand, clay and gravels. Some additional pits within the vicinity are documented on the OS 1st Edition map and are variously clay, sand, gravel or chalk pits, reflecting the variable geology of the area. The feature was digitally plotted during the Dorset Middle Stour AIM project. The feature is still visible as an earthwork on 2021 APGB imagery [2].
