Summary

Ditched and banked curvilinear features are visible as earthworks to the east of Lytchett Matravers on 1940s aerial photographs. The features are within fields shown as rough ground on historic OS mapping. The OS a5-2500 Epoch map documents possible field boundaries that may correspond with some of the features, which may comprise historic field boundaries and/or trackways of potentially post medieval to 20th century origin. The features were digitally plotted during the Dorset Middle Stour AIM project.

Full Description

Ditched and banked curvilinear features are visible as earthworks to the east of Lytchett Matravers on 1940s aerial photographs [1]. The features are within fields shown as rough ground on historic OS mapping. The OS a5-2500 Epoch map documents possible field boundaries that may correspond with some of the features, which may comprise historic field boundaries and/or trackways of potentially post medieval to 20th century origin. The features were digitally plotted during the Dorset Middle Stour AIM project. Some of the features are still potentially visible on 2021 APGB imagery and Google Earth imagery, although most are under tree cover.
