Summary

World War II auxiliary unit operational base recorded within a copse in cleared forest area of Bhompston Heath, Stinsford. The base was constructed in 1940-41 and by 1949 was considered to be in a dangerous condition. The precise location and condition of the site is uncertain.

TDW/1161 (Ministry of Town and Country Planning reference). Cassini grid 41/10 NW 165133. Underground shelter considered for destruction as public danger, 1949. In copse in cleared forest area (Bhompston Heath), near bridle road and within one mile of the birthplace of Thomas Hardy. (1-3)
