Summary

An area of ridged cultivation marks to the southwest of Garth Close, Sturminster Marshall, are visible as faint earthworks on 1940s aerial photographs. The features may be those of ridge and furrow cultivation of potentially medieval to post medieval date. A curvilinear banked and ditched feature containing the southeast side of the cultivation area maybe a field boundary of contemporary date. The features were digitally plotted during the Dorset Middle Stour AIM project.

Full Description

An area of ridged cultivation marks to the southwest of Garth Close, Sturminster Marshall, are visible as faint earthworks on 1940s aerial photographs [1]. The features may be those of ridge and furrow cultivation of potentially medieval to post medieval date. A curvilinear banked and ditched feature containing the southeast side of the cultivation area maybe a field boundary of contemporary date. The features were digitally plotted during the Dorset Middle Stour AIM project. They are no longer visible on Environment Agency lidar imagery.
