Monument record MDO46042 - Second World War pillbox, Studland Heath, Studland

A World War II pillbox located on Studland Heath. The pillbox had been constructed by early August 1940, was of reinforced concreted and was situated within the Studland Sub-Sector, defended by the 7th Battalion, Suffolk Regiment from October 1940, replaced in April 1941 by the 1st Battalion of the Coldstream Guards. The Home Guard unit manning defences within this sector was No.2 (East Purbeck) Company, 7th (Wareham) Battalion. A field visit in 1995 found the structure had been demolished, blown up by the army, after the war. Concrete fragments were visible across the site.

A demolished pillbox of reinforced concrete was sited on the N end of a spur of land with views to the N across Greenland Farm and Brands Bay. More of the structure probably lies buried under vegetation and soil.

The site was blown up by the army after the war. The concrete from the structure now lies scattered across the area. The site is covered in gorse and heather. Studland Heath, Corfe Castle Estate, Studland. <1>
