Full Description
Celtic coins from 'Purbeck' listed by Stukeley in 1720 <1.1> were classified by Haselgrove in 1978 who identified a Gallo-Belgic gold stater and two gold 1/4 staters; a 'British' inscribed gold stater of Cunobelinus; a 'Durotrigian' uninscribed silver stater and three bronze staters, also 'Durotrigian'. The 'Durotrigian' coins were possibly part of a hoard according to Haselgrove. (Purbeck or the Isle of Purbeck is the name given to the large peninsula centred about SY 9680). <1>
