Full Description
Col. Drew. of Dorchester Museum inspected the house some 5 years ago. He was of the opinion that the present kitchen was perhaps c.1700-1730, but the rest of the house considerably later in date. The house and buildings are called HIGHER COOMBE. <2>
The house has stone walls, a thatched roof, and modern windows, and shows little external evidence of antiquity. The
barn, 30.0m. N. of the house, is a small stone building with a roof of corrugated iron. The house is in a good state of repair. <3>

'The following monuments, unless otherwise described, are of the 17th century and of two storeys; the walls are of rubble and the roofs are thatched or covered with modern materials. Some of the buildings have exposed ceiling-beams and original fireplaces. … (9) Coombe Farm, house nearly 1 m. N.W. of the church, has been much altered. The Barn, N. of the house, is of the same period.'
