Monument record MDO4638 - 7 Love Lane, Shaftesbury: stone-lined pit or sump, post-medieval

A rectangular pit, described by the excavator as a sump, was found in the garden of 7 Love Lane. It was lined with greensand stone blocks, with bricks above. The date of the structure is not known, but it is presumed to be post-medieval or modern.

' 'Drainage sump'. Investigation. 7 Love Lane, Shaftesbury. Gd Rf ST 8592522756. 23rd February 1975. Clearance and investigation of a sump on the upper level of the garden. Although the superstructure consisted of brickwork, the structure itself was of Greensand blocks. The rectangular construction measured 5' deep, 4' 6" wide and 4' 9" long. '(ST 8592522756). In the garden of 7 Love Lane a rectangular sump 5 ft. deep was investigated it had brickwork above green sandstone blocks.'
