Monument record MDO46433 - Post medieval chalk pits, Winterborne Whitechurch

Two hollows with an outer doughnut of spoil are visible as earthworks on aerial photographs taken in 1947, in a field immediately to the south of Horse Close Plantation, Winterborne Whitechurch. Overall, the features are across 55m by 30m in size and and were digitally plotted during the Dorset Middle Stour Catchment AI&M Project. They are considered likely to be the sites of post medieval chalk pits and have seen been plough-levelled. A third hollow is visible as low earthworks on lidar imagery immediately to the south west.
