Full Description
Banked curvilinear features in fields to the south and west of Mapperton, Sturminster Marshall, are visible as earthworks on current Environment Agency lidar imagery [1]. The features comprise parallel curvilinear boundaries, broadly evenly spaced, extending over three historic fields. The features in the northwest field are slightly more rectilinear and reagular in character. The features are considered likely to be field boundaries of probable medieval date and, in the southern fields at least, part of a medieval strip field system. Those in the northwestern field could potentially be medieval to post medieval in date. They were digitally plotted during the Dorset Middle Stour AIM project.
