Summary

An area of ridged and ditched linear features within a field to the southeast of Winterborne Zelston, is visible as earthworks on 1940s aerial photographs. The features are considered to possibly be medieval ridge and furrow cultivation, although they may alternatively be post medieval drainage features. They were digitally plotted during the Dorset Middle Stour AIM project.

Full Description

An area of ridged and ditched linear features within a field to the southeast of Winterborne Zelston, is visible as earthworks on 1940s aerial photographs [1, 2]. The features comprise two areas of parallel ridges and ditches separated by a curvilinear banked field boundary. The field is situated adjacent to the south side of the River Winterborne. They
are considered to possibly be medieval ridge and furrow cultivation, although they may alternatively be post medieval drainage features. They were digitally plotted during the Dorset Middle Stour AIM project. They are no longer visible on available Google Earth imagery.
