Full Description
Ditched curvilinear features to the east of West Morden are visible as earthworks on 1940s aerial photographs [1]. The features comprise a principal ditched linear feature that extends from the lane to the south of Lousley Wood, northwards towards Beacon Hill, alongside several further curvilinear ditches branching off this at its northern end. They are considered likely to be trackways of probable post medieval date, although a later origin is also possible, as a Second World War slit trench is recorded on the top of the beacon (see MDO7817), indicating this might have been the site of wider Second World War activity. They features were digitally plotted during the Dorset Middle Stour AIM project. They are under trees and no longer visible on 2021 APGB imagery.
