Summary

A shallow irregular hollow to the east of Cockett Hill Gate, Lytchett Matravers, is visible as an earthwork on 1940s aerial photographs. The feature is considered to be a post medieval extractive pit, possibly a gravel or chalk pit. It was digitally plotted during the Dorset Middle Stour AIM project.

Full Description

A shallow irregular hollow to the east of Cockett Hill Gate, Lytchett Matravers, is visible as an earthwork on 1940s aerial photographs [1]. The feature is considered to be a post medieval extractive pit, possibly a gravel or chalk pit. It was digitally plotted during the Dorset Middle Stour AIM project.The feature is still visible as a low depression on 2002 Google Earth imagery.
