Summary

Banked and ditched linear features and an area of ridged cultivation marks to the east of Lytchett St Mary, Lytchett Matravers, are visible as earthworks on 1940s aerial photographs. The features are considered to be field boundaries and cultivation marks of medieval to post medieval date. The cultivation marks might be those of medieval ridge and furrow. They were digitally plotted during the Dorset Middle Stour AIM project.

Full Description

Banked and ditched linear features and an area of ridged cultivation marks to the east of Lytchett St Mary, Lytchett Matravers, are visible as earthworks on 1940s aerial photographs [1, 2]. The features are considered to be field boundaries and cultivation marks of medieval to post medieval date. The cultivation marks might be those of medieval ridge and furrow. They were digitally plotted during the Dorset Middle Stour AIM project. The field boundaries, but not the cultivation marks, are still visible on 2021 APGB imagery.
