Full Description

In 1854 during the course of breaking up some rough heath land about 1/2 mile from the Grange ... <1>

Barrow on heath. 1/2 mile from the Grange (Creech Grange?) removed before 1862; nothing in centre, but three urns of black pottery containing burnt bones in N.E. part of the
mound which was 6ft. high. <2>

Field investigation in the area failed to reveal the site of this barrow. The present location of the urns was not ascertained. <3>

Steeple 3. Barrow listed, details as above. Grinsell notes the urns as 'Late Bronze Age?'. <4>

A barrow on Grange Heath (SY 9083) about 1/2 mile from Creech Grange, was said to have been removed in 1854. From it came three secondary inurned cremations, and between the urns was part of an inhumation covered by Purbeck stones, the whole deposit being on a rough flint paving. Possibly the barrow (SY 98 SW 65). <5>
