Full Description
Dorchester (South) Station was the former terminus of the Southampton and Dorchester Railway (later absorbed by the London and South Western Railway) which opened in 1847. The main building of U-shaped plan was built of red brick with yellow dressings and projecting wings flanking the entrance, the ends of the wings were divided into three bays by stuccoed pilasters. Between the wings and over the platform were modern canopies, but originally an overall roof covered both platforms. The former down platform of the terminus has now been removed. <2>
