Listed Building record MDO47474 - House, Cistercian Abbey of Holy Cross, Hampreston

Please read our .

Summary

A mid-eighteenth century red brick cottage at the south-east corner of the Holy Cross Abbey complex. It was an L-plan building of two storeys with attic. In 1822 a range containing a workroom on the ground floor and a dormitory on the first floor was built into the re-entrant angle of the L. The first floor of the cottage was converted to a self-contained flat in the late 1980s; the Abbess' bedroom may have been located at this level. The large dormitory in the 1822 infill has a lower ceiling than that in the original house. The large room in the south range at ground-floor level is thought to have been the Abess' office.
