Full Description
An alleged 9th century Anglo-Saxon lozenge-shaped metal plate with an interlaced design was found at Encombe, Dorset (SY 9478). The plate has been sunk into a lozenge of lead and the remains of a rusted iron nail, probably of a later period, have pierced the object. Careful examination of the interlaced bands show that it was only one of at least four pieces, and that probably there was an interlaced circle between them.
Exhibited at the Soc. Of Ants. By A Way FSA in 1873, by permission of Rev. Eldon Bankes, Corfe Castle. <1>
