Monument record MDO47882 - Verwood Pottery kiln at Ebblake, Verwood

Pottery kiln, part of the Verwood Potteries, excavated at Ebblake in 1997. The kiln was constructed of brick and situated in a square pit 2.8 metres wide, and had a stoke pit measuring 4.5 metres by 6 metres. Most of the kiln had been removed and backfilled with brick fragments, clayey sand which had been used to bond the bricks. The kiln was in use during the late 17th century-early 18th century producing pottery which was slip decorated and had a manganese glaze. Methods not previously identified recorded at the Verwood Potteries. Forms included pancheons, jugs, candlesticks, cups, plates and dishes.
