‘In June 1962 Mr. F. A. Archibald found a silver coin of the Durotriges in the landslip at the edge of Furzy Cliff, Preston (SY 70148196), a site which has been watched for some years.
Dr. Derek Allen writes:- “The Furzy Cliff coin is a Mak 317, a typical struck silver Durotriges coin; but much later than Le Catillon, where the coins still looked very much like the gold prototypes. It is well post-Caesar, say last quarter of 1st century B.C. It is definitely still silver, not bronze – as they can be later still. In Claudian contexts they are always plain bronze. That gives the range of date.” ‘
