Full Description
A group of irregular features to the northwest of Minterne Magna, are visible as soilmarks on a 1945 aerial photograph [1]. The features appear to comprise a series of three irregular hollows, the central and largest up to 45m across. There is a possible irregular banked linear feature on the south side. They are of uncertain origin but could potentially be post medieval extractive pits, possibly chalk pits. Alternatively they could be earlier features, possibly enclosures or field boundaries of later prehistoric origin - they are not visible on Google Earth or lidar imagery. The features were digitally plotted during the Dorset Upper Cerne and Piddle AIM project.
