Summary

Strip lynchets. The remains of former open fields around a settlement at France Farm. Parallel bankfeatures are visible as earthworks on lidar imagery and were digitally plotted during the Dorset Middle Stour AIM Project. They are considered to be the remains of medieval strip fields.

Full Description

Strip lynchets centred at … ST 8663 0815 (B) Several irregularly spaced lynchets very pronounced and probably Medieval in origin. These lynchets are set in a NW-SE direction upon a fairly steep slope above the River Stour.

Parallel bankfeatures are visible as earthworks on lidar imagery and were digitally plotted during the Dorset Middle Stour AIM Project [4]. They are considered to be the remains of medieval strip fields [and are likely to be a contunation of those described in MDO4807.
