Full Description

Linear banked features in fields to the west of Minterne Magna are visible as earthworks on 1940s aerial photographs and Environment Agency lidar imagery [1, 2]. The features comprise a series of short parallel linear banks alongside some perpendicular banks which form partial rectilinear enclosures. The features are located along the slopes of a ridge top and are considered likely to be part of a later prehistoric field system that has survived through lack of ploughing in this area, although some features visible on a 1947 aerial photograph are no longer identifiable on current lidar imagery, indicating a deteriorating condition. The features were digitally plotted during the Dorset Upper Cerne and Piddle AIM project.
