Full Description
Linear banked and ditched features to the north of Cank Farm, Minterne Magna, are visible as earthworks on 1940s aerial photographs and Environment Agency lidar imagery [1, 2]. The features form parallel sections of bank flanking linear ditches extending from an area of deserted medieval settlement MDO2816) on the north side of Cank Farm up onto the downland of High Cank. They are considered most likely to be trackways or hollow ways of medieval to post medieval date. They were digitally plotted during the Dorset Upper Cerne and Piddle AIM project. Not all the features visible on a 1947 aerial photograph survive to be visible on lidar imagery, particularly those within the arable field as a pose to the higher ground, indicating substantial deterioration in condition, particularly through plough action.
