Full Description

Banked curvilinear features to the south and east of Lane Cottages, Minterne Magna, are visible as earthworks on Environment Agency lidar [1]. The features comprise several irregular curvilinear banks that appear to form part of a small rectilinear enclosure slightly counter to the alignment of the present field system. A further substantial curvilinear bank to the east of these might also form the corner of another enclosure - the western edge of this feature corresponds with a historic field boundary recorded on the OS 1st Edition map [2]. The features are of uncertain origin but might potentially be field boundaries of medieval or possibly earlier date, perhaps even later prehistoric in origin. They were digitally plotted during the Dorset Upper Cerne and Piddle AIM project.
