Monument record MDO48214 - Possible medieval strip lynchets, Buckland Newton

Please read our .

Summary

Banked curvilinear features to the west of Buckland Newton are visible as earthworks on a 1995 aerial photograph. The features are adjacent to areas of both Iron Age to Roman field systems (MDO44781) and also former medieval open field with the remains of medieval strip lynchets (MDO555). They might also be cultivation remains, possibly surviving fragments of medieval strip lynchets, although a later prehistoric origin is also possible. The features were digitally plotted during the Dorset Upper Cerne and Piddle AIM project.

Full Description

Banked curvilinear features to the west of Buckland Newton are visible as earthworks on a 1995 aerial photograph [1]. The majority of the features are no longer visible on current lidar imagery and there has been subsequent sub-division of the field since 1995 [2].
