Full Description
An area of banked linear features to the northwest of Alton Pancras are visible as earthworks on 1940s aerial photographs and Environment Agency lidar imagery [1, 2, 3]. The features form a series of small sub-rectilinear enclosures either side of a wide rectangular strip and are considered to possibly be part of an area of deserted medieval settlement. They might be the main core of Barcombe medieval settlement, recorded under MDO70, possibly continuing north of the road, recorded under MDO48365. They were digitally plotted during the Dorset Upper Cerne and Piddle AIM project.
